Spirit Ocean AdventureSummer Spirit Ocean Adventure is a multi-day to multi-week offshore sailing expedition aboard the Spirit of South Carolina. While aboard the 140-foot schooner, participants are active members of the crew, immersed in all aspects of shipboard life. Under the guidance of a professional crew, participants stand watch, navigate and ultimately assume command of the Spirit of South Carolina, all while embarking on a journey of self discovery. 21st Century Spirit Ocean Adventure is a seven-week bridge program for rising ninth grade students attending Title I schools. The program aims to prevent the incidence of dropping out among participants. 21st Century Spirit Ocean Adventure strives to change those attitudes and behaviors most strongly predicative of dropping out while closing the achievement gap through daily interdisciplinary, experiential education activities, including sailing on the Spirit of South Carolina.
