Ship & Crew
Few icons are as powerful as a classic tall ship under full sail, cleaving its way through the brine. The Spirit of South Carolina is such a ship, proudly carrying its student crewmembers on ocean and coastal voyages while conveying an unparalleled education in self-reliance, stewardship, teamwork and leadership.
Spirit of South Carolina
At 140 feet long and built principally of wood, the Spirit of South Carolina is a special ship. This traditional pilot schooner is much more than a classic symbol of the state’s rich maritime heritage. She is primarily a unique platform for education. From stem to stern, she has been equipped to accommodate, inspire and educate.
The Spirit’s typical season schedule is as follows:
Spring: Sea Spray Scouts Daysails, Custom Programs (Charleston, Beaufort)
Summer: East Coast Tour, Spirit Ocean Adventure, 21st Century Spirit Ocean Adventure and Maintenance Period
Fall: Sea Spray Scouts Daysails, Custom Programs (Charleston, Georgetown)
Winter: Multi-Day Programs (Points South) and Maintenance Period
