The Spirit of South Carolina is dedicated to offering a unique educational platform for the youth of the Palmetto State. The hands-on programs that will be offered aboard are designed to challenge and engage students while promoting responsibility, teamwork, and stewardship for both their community and their environment. Programs will also be designed around an interdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on math and science with extensions into the history and literature of South Carolina and our relationship to the sea.
Currently we offer four types of programs:
- Open Enrollment Summer Programs
Spirit Ocean Adventure
Charleston to Bermuda to Boston ($3200 per participant)
Round-trip Boston to Boston ($2000 per participant)
10 - 18 day programs offered each summer
21 student capacity
Teen ages 15-18 or qualify for an age waiver
(age waviers are available for rising 9th graders and recently high school graduates)
- 21st Century Spirit Ocean Adventure
6 week summer program (5 week Land Based, 8 day Sea Based Program)
40 student capacity
Teens who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2009-2010 school year and attend a
Title 1 high school in Charleston County, SC are eligible to apply for this free
summer program.
- Sea Spray Scouts Daysail Programs
Available for 18 weeks a year, 9 weeks in the fall and 9 weeks in the spring
Grades 5-8
Capacity of 40 (including students, teachers and/or chaperones)
Correlated to State Standards
All programs include both pre and post sail curriculum
