Spirit Ocean Adventure Update - Day 13

July 17, 2010

Click here to track the Spirit of South Carolina

Tonight's update is from student crew member Sylvia D:

17 July 2010

Things are winding down as the Spirit crew gets closer to the end of our voyage. The New England nights have started getting much cooler, but thankfully, we have not had any big storms since leaving Norfolk. This morning the wind died around 0400, so B and C watches took down the mainsail and started up the motor again after a full day of sailing at up to 9 knots!

This afternoon the 3 watches competed in a pin chase, racing to locate the lines around the deck. B watch was the champion, finishing over ten minutes before A & C watches.

We should be going into another port within the next few days, this time in Cape Cod. Although they were both out of sight, we passed by Long Island and Block Island today.

P.S. Zeke wants to make sure his grandfather knows we're planning to go through the Cape Cod Canal Sunday morning.
