Spirit Ocean Adventure Update - Day 9

Tonight's update is from Kai B. and Katherine R.:


Today we had class with Ms. Haley where we learned about the different types of plankton. In addition to taking plankton samples, we examined them under a microscope. We distinguished the zooplankton and phytoplankton. We also had class with Mr. Charlie; our intro to weather consisted of everything from dangerous microbursts to pressure systems.

Later we went to have pizza at a restaurant in Norfolk and then to the Douglas MacArthur Center. We were all fascinated by his past and legacy. Going on a walking tour of historic Norfolk was an interesting experience and it was neat to explore a new town almost none of us have visited before. We then went to get ice cream at the mall (yay!).

We all trekked back to the boat and had dinner. Later we had a muster and learned that the engine part had not arrived. We also want to get back on the high seas, but we are all enjoying exploring Norfolk. After muster, we played an intense game of Capture the Flag before returning to the ship for an inspiring movie about sailing around Cape Horn. Our movie night was so much fun and we now want a dog on board like they have in the movie.

We are all looking forward to Jacob's birthday tomorrow!
