Three-Day, Two-Night Adult Adventure aboard the Spirit of South Carolina from Boston, MA - Friday, July 30 - Sunday, August 1 -

July 01, 2010

The South Carolina Maritime Foundation is offering a three-day, two-night sail aboard the traditional tall ship, Spirit of South Carolina from Boston, MA from Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1. If weather permits the ship will sail through Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary to Provincetown, MA; an alternate destination is Gloucester, MA. This adults-only sail for 20 people offers lessons on local ecology, seamanship and history taught by professional educators along with the chance to whale watch and take a turn at the helm, handle sails and stand watch while learning how this 140-foot wooden ship operates.

This unique New England getaway is $550 for South Carolina Maritime Foundation members and $600 for nonmembers. Participants will enjoy three family-style meals per day and will sleep in their own bunk in the communal guest berthing areas. To reserve a place on this sail contact Rachel Stewart at 843.722.1030 x 20 or rstewart@scmaritime.org.

"We are thrilled to be offering adults the chance to enjoy the incredible educational programming we have been offering to adolescents since 2007. Sailing in New England during the summer months is a wonderful experience, especially in places like Stellwagen Bank where wildlife is abundant," says Beth Spencer, program manager for the South Carolina Maritime Foundation.

The South Carolina Maritime Foundation owns and operates the Spirit of South Carolina tall ship. The Foundation's mission is to create opportunities for life-changing experiences resulting in leaders for tomorrow's communities. Since its first season of programming in 2007, nearly 6,000 students have been served. With the support of local partnerships, the South Carolina Maritime Foundation is able to generate funds to keep these exceptional programs in place.
