Today trainees boarded the USS Yorktown for a day of exploring. Once aboard we were given a tour of the flight deck. We learned about Yorktown's history and the many battles she was in. The flight deck contained airplanes from several different wars. As trainees explored the ship they toured the engine room as well as the living and eating quarters of the Yorktown's crew. We even saw the old dental and surgical areas--yikes!!
Back on board the Spirit of South Carolina trainees worked on their check-lists and many were certified to go out on the head-rig (front of the boat). Trainees participated in a scavenger hunt on board which ended in a three way tie. This evening was spent writing in journals and enjoying a beautiful sunset. Tomorrow will bring our last full day on board and we will be challenging our students in the Great Schooner Olympics.
