Charleston Collegiate Program 2 - Day 2

Click here to track the Spirit of South Carolina
Last night, we finished up the evening with a rousing match of Mallory Family Fun before heading to our bunks. We woke before the sun today to make the most of the good sailing weather, hauling back and heading for the ocean before breakfast!
Today's education watch consisted of journal writing and plankton exploration. We caught a larval fish, a comb jelly, fish lice, and a number of phytoplankton during out two plankton tows. The deck watch had extra sail handling because of the plankton tows, having to stop the ship for one tow and to operate at a specific speed for the second.
We showed off a bit tonight (though no one was there to see us) by "sailing onto the hook." That means we kept the sails up until the moment we anchored, then we dropped them on Captain Wells' command. To do this in a boat as large as the Spirit of South Carolina requires organization and capable hands.
After anchoring, we enjoyed dinner, free time, skit performances, and a game called Sculptionary. We spent some time reflecting on the trip as a group before turning to our bunks and anchor watches.
