Charleston Collegiate Program 1 - Day 1

March 21, 2010

Click here to Track the Spirit of South Carolina

Today we boarded students from Charleston Collegiate. We immediately set out for sea while doing our ship's orientation. After orientation, we set all four lower sails and enjoyed great sailing for 9 hours. Each watch had an opportunity to take the deck for a spell and to get a nap this afternoon. Around 5:30, we lowered the sails and turned in towards Winyah Bay. It was a bit choppy heading directly into the wind, but we are now peacefully anchored and enjoying some free time before our evening activity.

We are proud to say that even though we had a few queasy folks today, no one actually got sick and everyone kept a positive attitude. Just before dinner we set goals for the trip including no put downs and a constant willingness to jump up and be helpful.

Till Tomorrow,
Head Educator Beth Spencer
