Classroom Curriculum

Teachers participating in South Carolina Maritime Foundation’s educational programs are supplied with curriculum offering background information and activities that prepare their students for a sail aboard the Spirit of South Carolina and follow-up curricula reinforcing the material covered during the sail. While sailing on the schooner, students spend the day learning the parts of the ship, assisting in setting sails and navigating while engaging in formal, standard-based learning activities in the subjects of science, math, English language arts and social studies taught by the professional crew of nine educators.
